Glossy or glass skin has been on trend since then, but I have wondered a lot on the secrets behind it, What people really do to achieve it? How much time does it take? Are there any secret ingredients behind a glass skin? Is it genetics? and a lot more. Finally, after a long time of research, I’m here with all the knowledge behind glass skin.
But do you guys know a bitter truth behind glass skin – MAKEUP! Yes, glass skin can of course be achieved naturally but a lot of skin care industries are fooling you with models having lots of makeup on their skin looking absolutely stunning, just because they want you to buy their products. So, this article is going to be full of information regarding the ways of getting your skin a glossy finish only with skincare. Let’s get started!
What is Glass skin?
Glass skin is a result of basically taming your skin with self-love and care, the result is a luminous, glossy, translucent skin. Remember! We are only talking about Glass skin here and not on acne free or flawless skin. When you start prepping your skin and giving it a good amount of time each and every day, on time your skin naturally turns glossy.
Korean skin care regime with almost 10 steps is followed to get that skin, we are going to see all those steps here. All the steps are not compulsory to get glossy skin, for people who cannot give such time, a good 10 minutes every day with proper CTM routine is far more enough to get a healthy skin.
1 Double Cleanse
Cleansing is something which we do regularly, but for people wearing makeup or who go out on dust and dirt, double cleansing is advised, it can basically be done in 2 ways. First, use an oil-based cleanser and then a water-based cleanser after removing your makeup.

Second, use any oils like coconut oil to dissolve your make up and then follow it up with a good mild soap. A soap for face? you may wonder, but Yes! Here the soap basically helps in removing the top layer that is the oil and the dissolved makeup and then follow it up with your usual cleanser. This is especially for those who do not want to buy two different cleansers.
2 Exfoliate
Exfoliation is a mandatory step in skin care, but you need not do it regularly, it is advised to exfoliate once or twice a week. Exfoliation works well for people with whiteheads and blackheads but it’s a complete no for ones with acne (there are chances that you may spread it).

Again, exfoliation can be done in two different ways. First, chemical exfoliation, which includes AHAs and BHAs. AHAs are for dry to normal skinned people since it only acts on surfaces, BHAs are for combination to oily skinned people coz they can penetrate deep into pores and can unclog them.
As lot of us think exfoliation not only helps us get a clear and breathable skin, but they also reduce signs of aging keeping our skin young and hydrated.
Second, physical exfoliation, these are scrubs, make sure to use scrubs which are mild, and these are only advised for people who are prone to clogged pores or can be used in T zone where you see them a lot. If you ask me, chemical exfoliation is better since the later may cause micro tears in our skin.
3 Toning
Toning is something which a lot of people including dermatologists do not suggest, I say it can of course be done if the ingredients you use are interesting. A lot of ingredients cannot be absorbed by our skin if they are formulated in creams since the particles are far bigger than our skin pores. So, toner is the easiest way you can help skin to absorb what you want.
A toner can be chosen based on two things. One, it should have the key ingredient for your skin concern like if you are suffering from clogged pores, go for toners with hazelnut, for fungal acne go for tea tree oil, for dry skin go for glycerin etc.,
Second, a toner which suits all skin is a hyaluronic acid-based toner, remember to apply it on a damp skin.
4 Essence
Essence is basically a lightweight serum with no or little active ingredients, if you ask me that is it a mandatory one, not really, if you cannot spend much and want to skip one, you may do this. But in another sense if you want a instant glow with skincare, snail mucin is the one you can go for (even the oily ones) and that basically comes under essence.

COSRX Hydration Booster- Snail 96 Mucin Essence + Peptide Toner Serum- Boost Hydration, Intense Deep Moisture for Daily Use, Korean Skincare, Korean Toner Essence Duo
5 Serum
Serum is a thickened formula of essence with active ingredients in it. This basically comes under treatment since you are again going to go for serums as per your concerns. Will discuss the most common ones here,
- Salicylic acid – Acne and clogged pores
- Glycolic acid – good skin barrier and collagen production
- Niacinamide – For clogged pores and pigmentation
- Vitamin C and ferulic acid – Anti ageing and skin tone improvement
- Hyaluronic acid – Hydration
- Azelic acid – Acne and inflammation
- Kojic acid – Discolouration and pigmentation
6 Treatment
We are not going to go deep into treatments, since its only for people with some skin conditions who need prescription. Spot correctors like pimple patches and retinol creams also come under this, anyways seek for a medical advice before getting into it.
7 Moisturize
This is the first product with big particles comparatively to the previous ones. As the name says use a moisturizer only as a moisturizer, do not look for one with actives. A decent moisturizer with butters and humectants is far more enough, this is basically used for protecting the previous steps of skincare, it acts like a shield.

8 Eye Cream
Eye creams can only be thought off if they are with powerful antiaging ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, caffeine, etc., else a moisturizer would be a better option.
9 SPF
SPF that is Skin Protection Factor is a very important thing if you are a person using vitamin C and retinols. Combined with SPF vitamin C can be used any time during the day, but a retinol-based creams or serums are only advised in night skin care regime.
If you are a person staying indoors, consider using a SPF of atleast 30 and for outdoor persons SPF of more than 50 is advised. People with oily skin can go for mousse like consistency, SPFs are not only for face, never forget your neck, ears, hands and legs.

10 Facial oil
If you are in you night skin care regime, face oils can be applied. They can also go well with CTM routine in the end, or you can separately use face oils for a good face lift up massage. Facial oils like kumkumathi, Tea tree, Rosehip, coconut and even olive oils goes well.
The main mistake people do while applying facial oils is that they tend to apply a lot of oil resulting in skin with clogged pores. Unless doing a massage, take only 2 to 3 drops of oil in your palm, rub well until heat and pat on your skin. You are not supposed to rub it hard.
And as the 11th note SHEET MASKS are also a good option for achieving luminous, hydrated glass skin.
